The lymphatic system is one of the most vital systems in the body and is essential for good health. It is a network of nodes and vessels containing a clear to white fluid made up of water, proteins, salts, glucose, fats and white blood cells.
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a highly specialised form of massage that requires light, rhythmical and very precise hand movements, pressures and sequences. It assists the lymphatic system in maintaining the body’s fluid balance, blood circulation and immune system processes.
May assist with:
detoxifying the body
stress and anxiety reduction
recovering from colds, sore throats, infections
continual feelings of tiredness and fatigue
oedema – excess fluid build up
Conditions or symptoms where lymphatic drainage is an absolute contraindication:
congestive heart failure
history of blood clots
history of stroke
acute renal failure or other kidney related conditions
you are presenting with acute inflammation due to pathogenic germs such as bacteria, virus, fungi – obtain written medical consent from your treating practitioner as to whether MLD is permissible post inflammation
